Weather The district lies between 1,000 and 1,600 metres above sea level with a number of isolated peaks rising to over 2,000-3,000 metres above sea level. The most pronounced mountain peaks in the district include Mt. Kadam, Lolekek and Napak. The district receives between 500-1500 mm of rainfall per year.
Population According to the preliminary results of the 2002 Population and Housing Census, Nakapiripirit district has a population of 156,500 persons. Ngakarimojong and Pokot are the main languages spoken in the district.
Potential A detailed minerals survey carried by a firm from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in 1994 revealed that the district has vast deposits of limestone, marble, gold, iron ore, diamond, gems and rubbies that can be commercially exploited
The Pian-Upe Game Reserve is currently receiving an increasing number of tourists, both foreign and national. There is good accommodation in the reserve and a strategically placed camping site for viewing animals. |
